4th of July Style for Baby

Independence Day is a great day to show off your baby’s style and American pride.

Rea has already picked up her July 4th outfit from Old Navy and the selections were so cute, cheap and plentiful I couldn’t help but put together a few suggestions for 4th of July Style.  Enjoy!

Outfit 1

This romper is irresistible and the price can’t be beat.  Tiered-Ruffle Romper for Baby $6.99, Embellished sunglasses for Baby $5.00, Solid Flip Flops for Baby $2.50 (if you buy more than one pair)

Outfit 2

Any baby fashionista would love to be seen in a look like this.  Do those shoes come in my size?  Star-Print Ruffle One-Shoulder Romper for Baby $14.94, Ribbon Bow-Tire Cut-out Sandals for Baby $16.94, Bow-Tie Straw Purse for Baby $9.00

Outfit 3

Girly girls like Rea can never have enough dresses.  This printed red, white and blue can be worn year-round but is particularly cute for the 4th.  Tiered Floral Ruffle Dress for Baby $16.94, Printed Lace-Up Sneakers for Baby $14.94, Embellished Headbands for Baby $5.94

Any looks you like?  Check out Old Navy’s site for all these cute combos just in time for the holiday.

Celebrating Spring with Kids

Yahoo! Shine came up an awesome list of things to do during spring with the kiddos.  I can’t wait to cross off this list with Rea:

1. Blow bubbles.  (She just loves them.  And heck, so do I!)
2. Plant flowers. (Herbs and other edibles are fun for kids to grow because they can enjoy their bounty!)
3. Make homemade lemonade. Let the kids host a lemonade stand!  (Rea loves helping out, so this should be fun.)
4. Have a picnic at the beach.
5. Climb trees. (Trees?  I dunno.  Jungle gym?  Maybe.)
6. Grab a blanket and some books and hit the local park for outdoor story time.  (Can’t beat that!)
7. Go for a hike. (OUCH! Must wait til it cools down in Houston.)
8. Have an outdoor movie night.  (I saw that a Facebook friend did this with her girls and it looked like a blast!)
9. S’more party, anyone? (Yum!  Sounds like a mess, though.)
10. Take an evening stroll and listen to the birds as they end their day. (OK, obviously the person who wrote this list doesn’t live down South.  Mosquitos, anyone?)

Anyway, can’t wait to get started.  I’ll be sharing each of these things as we do them.  Anything on the list you’d like to do?

Who’s scared?

Scared of squeezing a whole human out of a 10 centimeter hole?  Expect to be doing it for a while!  According to a study out of Norway, women who are afraid of giving birth spend more time in the delivery room.  It all makes sense now!  All the horror stories from my mom and back-to-back Discovery channel documentaries had me terrified of the whole process.  The most frightening thought– becoming paralyzed during the epidural.  But probably scarier than that?  The thought of NOT having an epidural.  Looking back on the delivery of my Rea, I’d have to say that it was one of the most emotional, stressful, trying times of my life.  (All 31 hours!)  But thanks to wonderful family, friends, hospital staff and a supportive partner, it was also the most rewarding.

Sunday Blues

I spent today celebrating a family member’s retirement and relaxing.  Check out my impromptu photo shoot in one of my favorite dresses purchased from a local boutique a couple years ago.

It was super sunny outside.  I didn’t realize I was squinting on each photo until the shoot was over.

Boy was it hot!

Check out that view of the city!

NABJ Style, Pt. 2

Pants: Goodwill, Shirt: Forever 21, Shoes: Outfit Outlet, Necklace: Forever 21

This is what I wore for a great night of food and fun with a few friends.  We enjoyed a concert featuring Ruben Studdard of American Idol fame and Cupid  (the Cupid shuffle guy, duh!)  Then we just walked around town and grabbed a late-night snack.  I absolutely LOVE these pants.  Funny story — I spent two hours at the mall looking for a great pair of high-waisted slacks like these and was preparing to spend over $100 on a pair by BCBG at Dillards.  But something told me to go to Goodwill and I’m so glad I did.  I found these and another bright pair of high-waisted trousers (the others are a vivid orange shade which needs to be altered because they’re a tad too big.)  But I spent a whopping $16 dollars total on both items.  Can’t beat that!  I love the pants and can’t wait to wear the others.

Braided Up

I’m headed out of town for the National Association of Black Journalists conference.  Rea will be with Daddy for a few days, so in order to prevent days like this:

I got Rea’s hair braided.  She actually sat through the whole experience (about an hour long) and here are the results:

I hope this lasts for a couple weeks.

Circus Day

You can’t beat free fun.  Yesterday was all about free fun at our local Chick fil A.  It was circus day complete with games, face painting, clowns and balloons. Check out some of the pics we snapped:

I had to force her to eat one nugget.  Sometimes she loves to eat.  Other times…

She wiped her face just before I hit snap.
